National Book Award winner announced tonight!

Tonight the National Book Award for Young People will be announced! Here are the finalists:
  • Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson
  • The Underneath by Kathi Appelt
  • What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell
  • The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
  • The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp
So far I've read two of these and I'm dying to read the rest.

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks is a hilarious look at an exclusive boys-only secret society at a private high school and Frankie's (a girl) attempt to take it over.

The Underneath is a touching, poetic story of an old hound dog, two kittens, a thousand-year-old snake and a bitter, angry man. I couldn't put it down.

I'm off to read The Spectacular Now next. I'll post the winner tonight!

EDIT: The winner is What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell. Come get it at the library today!

Election Day is tomorrow!

Election day is tomorrow. If you're under 18, you can't vote, but you can still be involved and you are still a part of this exciting election no matter who you support or don't support. Here are a few interesting websites where your favorite YA authors and teens in general show their support for the candidates:

YA for Obama

YA for McCain

Also, don't forget about our teen events later this week!

NaNoWriMo Writing Club
Thursdays from 3 - 4 p.m.
WRITE A BOOK IN A MONTH! I'm 1000 words in so far; this is tougher than I thought it would be. Join up with fellow writers every Thursday to give each other support, play fun writerly games and brainstorm together.

TAG Meeting
Friday, November 7 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
We'll play games, make plans for future teen events and talk about books, movies, etc. See you there!
